Featured Band

Liv Moon

For the new band featured on the blog I have chosen a japanese band by the name of Liv Moon. It was back in 2011 when I kind of stumbled across this album and decided to give it a shot. I do like female fronted symphonic metal and the fact this was from Japan was also a bit intriguing. In relative terms there aren't that many successful bands from the region and I don't listen to or review a lot of stuff from there. Basically, I considered this a chance to get a peak at a metal scene I don't normally pay as much attention to.

Well, Liv Moon were certainly worth a listen. Listening to the band' releases I believe they can best be described as familiar enough to appeal to symphonic metal fans, but just quirky enough to be interesting. At times the band draws on the somewhat standard female symphonic song relying on melodic/atmospheric soundscapes, but at others they inject some non-standard sort of influences. Liv Moon songs can draw on anything from pop to industrial to electronic/dance influences and the end result kinda reminds me of something that could be on the soundtrack to an Anime film. There's just a certain different cultural take here on the sound and I find it pretty refreshing really.

Simply put, Liv Moon draw on familiar influences I like from the female symphonic sound, but add their own touch that draws a bit upon Japan's own music culture. It's an interesting experience and I'd recommend that any fans of symphonic metal check this out. Maybe you'll enjoy broadening your horizons as I did.
