Outlaw Invasion is the 4th release by these German power metallers but this is my first experience with them. With all the metal bands out there it's easy for a band like Gun Barrel to slip under the radar but I heard a few songs and liked em enough to give this one a review.

Nobody is going to ever accuse this band of reinventing the wheel, but you know what? Good songs are good songs and not everyone needs to break the mold of what makes good metal. What Gun Barrel do is deliver straight up metal in a way that reminds me of Saxon mixed with a dose of German power metal heaviness in the vein of Grave Digger or Rebellion. Outlaw Invasion is just the sort of album you have to headbang to with driving rhythms, vocals with attitude, and catchiness that will stick with you. Even the silliness of the lyrics which recall Anvil have their charm and just make this a fun band. The vocalist is also a dead ringer for Biff Byford at times which is fine by me.

If bands like Saxon, Accept, Grave Digger, and Rebellion appeal to you and you like your metal in a straight forward, heavy way than Gun Barrel might be for you. This album got at least one head moving.

Highlights: Front Killers, Brother To Brother, Outlaw Invasion

Rating - 3.5/5
