Iron Savior are the sort of band where it is apparent that it's a producer behind the music. Piet Sielk just has great ability at making a band Sound good. I've always thought Iron Savior just has one of the best, most crisp and heavy sounds in metal. Every album they've released I've enjoyed on some level so I didn't really go into this one thinking it'd be any different. Iron Savior have been a pretty steady sort of band. Of course, that's also been a criticism of the band... that their stuff often sounds familiar. While it is true this band has never had a Great deal of variation it's never really bothered me. A lack of variation is typically made up for by means of a series of catchy and energetic songs that make for solid metal anthems.

Well, what I just said in that little intro pretty much sums up the new Iron Savior, as usual. There's really nothing shocking or surprising about The Landing. Iron Savior have a patented formula of forceful and epic mid-range vocals and music that just sounds heavy as hell. This album is almost completely wall to wall fist pounding anthems in the best tradition of the band and the catchyness factor is high. The only track to really stray from that formula is the obligatory ballad Before The Pain which is decent, but not much more. Also worth noting is the odd bonus tracks which are two re-recordings I can't quite figure out the reasoning behind. I mean these songs sounded fine as is and there was no real need for an update. Oh well. They're not bad and they're bonus tracks... they're just missable.

Basically, The Landing is the band at it's best. This is exactly the kind of release I would want from Iron Savior. Where as the songs on Megatropolis didn't really hang with me, this is the total opposite. No huge stylistic changes (not even small ones), but better material. I guess everyone can have an off album and even that one wasn't bad. This one just hits a lot more home runs in terms of good choruses and hooks.

There's really nothing to say, but this won't change your mind about the band either way. If you've enjoyed their no nonsense heavy metal anthems in the past than you'll certainly like this. If you've never gotten into the band/don't find them varied enough than this is not for you. Personally, I think this album just reeks of metal awesomeness. Piet Sielk is a strong singer and songwriter with just a great deal of talent making addictive, powerful walls of sound.
