Well Tim Owens tried a solo band with Beyond Fear, now it seems he's trying it again under his name but with the guitarist from Beyond Fear on a lot of the tracks. OK then. Not sure what the purpose of this is other than to maybe work off his name recognition and invite a bunch of guests to play on the album. I wouldn't say most of the guests really bring much to the album aside from perhaps Bruce Kulik who cowrites a few songs and does guitar on a bunch more.

After listening to this album I just have to say that I don't think Tim Owens has a clue how to write a song. Not the slightest inkling. Most of his singing seems to poorly match up with the music being played and I get this feel of discord that grates on my ears like nails on a chalkboard. A perfect example of this is the song The Light which sounds like pure chaotic noise to me ears.

Also, Owens seems to be under this mistaken impression that he is good as anything other than being a screamer which needs to be corrected. There's nothing wrong with sticking with what you're good at and what Owens strength is his screams which can add intensity to a heavy and preferably fast/intense song. This is not to say he should just scream his balls off perpetually as that would get annoying. I don't mind his voice when he kind of delivers in a more mid-range snarl either which can sound heavy like on the track It Is Me. This song has a nice heavy groove to it and Owens carries it pretty well in a vibe that reminds me of some of Jugulators more crunch oriented moments. This is about the only thing I can think of that remotely resembles a highlight.

The problem really comes in when this man tries to actually sing melodically though as it comes off terrible every single time. My intro and initial impression of this album from the song Starting Over was Axl Rose had a severe head injury and wrote the worst Guns N Roses song ever. Tim Owens mewling voice on this track really does remind me of someone doing bad GNR karaoke.

In conclusion, this album sucks pretty bad. The songwriting is terrible and out of sync with itself. The album also doesn't seem very cohesive in terms of sound as tracks like Starting Over and the strangely sleaze rock sounding To Live Again. This just isn't good and the highlight I list is really only because it's the track I can tolerate as mediocre.

Highlights: It Is Me

Rating - 1.0/5
