I'm guessing everyone's fairly familiar with the drama surrounding this band and Tolkki's insanity so I'm not gonna go in depth here... suffice to say the band split briefly and now here they are back together. So how does this 'reunion' come off?
Well when the first track came on (Maniac Dance) I started laughing. I believe my thoughts can be summed up as "WTF is this? Are they joking?". From the ultra-lame bleep bloops of the keyboards to the goofy sounding guitar to the utterly retarded lyrics and repetitive chorus... this is by far the worst song Stratovarius has ever recorded. Well nowhere to go but up from there even if it isn't far up...
Most of the rest of the album is Strato you've heard before, but like making copies of a copy, some of the quality is lost each time. Songs like United & Leave The Tribe are 6th rate Kiss Of Judases and there are other songs in the familiar speed and sappy ballad styles. Other songs worthy of particular bashing are Zenith Of Power (which repeats it's title about a billion times) and Back To Madness which has an Opera singer apparently dying from listening to the album.
Well it may be a reunion, but it doesn't sound like they've been apart much except for the songs that reference Tolkki's insanity. Not a terrible listen exactly... but I wouldn't waste money on an album you've already heard done better. Get some new ideas guys.
Highlights: Fight!!! is an ok, typical Strato single and Just Carry On is cool.
