Morgana Lefay have been a staple of the power metal genre for quite some time now. Between the name Morgana Lefay and Lefay they've produced a good 9 albums since their debut in 1990 (excluding the faux-Morgana Lefay self titled) and I have to say that they have never disappointed. While the band has enjoyed Some success I would have to say they deserve more attention considering their consistency and long standing in the power genre.

With all that said, Morgana Lefay once again delivers. Like all their albums this one has it's own personality and flair to it, but is once again unmistakably them. From the Jon Oliva-esque screams to the punishing guitar sound this one is everything one would come to expect of Morgana Lefay. The thing which I did find surprising is the direct nature of most of the songs and the generally uptempo delivery. At times the riffing borders on thrashy and there is not a lot of heavy doom chug to be found. In this way the album resembles the Lefay era or the band more than the last album or the rest of the Morgana Lefay days. The verdict on this one would have to be different, but good and not unwelcome. Sticking to mostly 3 or 4 minute songs this one just rips along in heavy and energetic power fashion. I really get an impression of old Savatage mixed with a dose of groove to ripping thrash. The only song that breaks the mold and gos for for a longer track with some soft parts is the single Over And Over Again which is a definite standout and good choice for the single.

All in all this is just a balls out, take no prisoners sort of album with a simple but effective songwriting approach. If truly heavy power metal is what you want than I think you'll be happy with this one. As usual I especially recommend Morgana Lefay to fans of old Savatage before that band pussed out. Fans of fellow swedes Tad Morose would be advised to listen to this band as well if you haven't already.

Highlights: Over And Over Again, Make A Wish, Depression, Delusions

Rating - 4.0/5
