Municipal Waste are an interesting band in the here and the now. In a lot of ways they remind me of the very roots of Thrash metal strangely reappearing in the modern era. Thrash certainly does have strong roots in Punk rock and Municipal Waste brings this back with a force.

With a very tongue in cheek approach to metal themes and partying atmosphere this isn't an album to be taken seriously in some ways. Certainly the band does not seem to take themselves too seriously and are more intent on making fun yet very headbangable music delivered in a sort of loose way with punk energy and vocals. The Art Of Partying sounds like the soundtrack to a mosh pit to me and I think that's exactly what this band was going for. With intense, energetic, rapid fire and quick to end songs I can appreciate the sentiment behind this. I firmly believe one could bang their heads right off listening to The Art Of Partying and their hearkening to the old is oddly refreshing in a thrash scene that mostly seems to have forgotten these sort of punk roots. I think the key words of this review have to be energetic and fun. My one nitpick with the album would be the overall length but this is kinda common with punk and crossover as the songs themselves are generally short. I like a little more music for my money, but I'd still be comfortable calling this one short and sweet.

In conclusion, this is album is just what it tries to be... the art of partying. Noisy and brainless but intense and a lot of fun, I can see why some thrash metal fans of old are really latching onto this band. The Art Of Partying really is a blast to listen to and a good headbangable experience from start to finish. Sometimes it's good to just have some fun with music and not take things too seriously. I'd recommend this to anyone who likes crossover metal or raw, over the top thrash like early Nuclear Assault and Vio-Lence.
