In terms of teutonic metal, Destruction has always had a place yet always pulled last behind the other big 2 (Kreator & Sodom) to most everyone. Sort of a fringe band on the verge of popularity, but not quite there. Even that has slipped away during the course of the past couple albums as the band has released several lackluster albums and faded from sight. The only reason I probably even heard of this album was the gimmick of the track 'The Alliance Of Hellhounds' which assembles many notable metal vocalists into a veritable we are the world of metal. Well that's enough to garner some attention based on the names, but does the rest of the album keep the listener?

I'd have to say no. Suprisingly, The Alliance Of Hellhounds, with it's extremely varied vocalists comes across pretty seemless and is the definete highlight, but beyond that there isn't much here. It's pretty much the same old bag of tricks from Destruction. All the riffing is in the same basic mold and pretty uninventive and there's really no variation in the vocals either aside from the one track. None of this album comes across as bad, but none of it strikes me as particularly good either as none of it distinguished itself. For the thrash metal purist this album does keep things very traditional teutonic in sound and doesn't try to be modern like many thrash bands now days. Also, it does come off pretty brutal/heavy, but there's definetely something missing here. Personally, I think the songwriting barrel has gone bone dry for this band and they're going nowhere in a hurry.

If you're a fan of the style this might be passable, but it's far from mindblowing. The Alliance Of Hellhounds is worth a listen at the least as it is interesting to hear atypical vocal styles to thrash like Biff Byford. The lyrics are also a cool homage as Biff sings about wheels of steel, Peavy about Prayers Of Steel, etc.

Highlights: The Alliance Of Hellhoundz

Rating - 2.0/5
