In Thy Power marks Cryonic Temples third effort but this is my first experience with them. I'd love to be able to check out every metal band out there, but unfortunately it just can't be done. But now that they've been around awhile and a few people have recommended their albums, I figured I'd give the new one a go.
Like the bulk of Limb's catalogue this is fairly typical power on a basic level. Cryonic Temple doesn't bring anything innovative to the table as it's power with the lyrics and general formula you've come to expect from this sort of band. I do hear a some of the american true metal sound mixed in here and there, though this is obviously more polished. Overall, the sound comes off something like a cross between Manowar and Iron Maiden. It's not the sum of it's parts however. Sometimes the throaty shouts of the vocalist don't seem to mesh quite right with the smooth, flowing Maiden-esque music. They have managed to piece together a somewhat original sound as I've never heard these sounds combined in quite the same fashion, but as I said... nothing to reinvent the wheel. Still, if the thought of american true metal with better production and some Maiden-like song structures & bass gallops appeals to you then it may be worth checking out.
