After the failed attempt to recapture Book Of Shadows that was Hangover Music a lot of fans were looking forward to hearing Zakk back in kicking ass mode and I was one of them. Having been bored to tears (pun intended) by that album I'd been dying for some kick ass Wylde shredding. Well... looks like I have to keep waiting. Did Zakk forget how to write like he used to while doing his acoustic soft rock album?

Mafia on the surface is a more direct, metal album, but the riffing is suprisingly simplistic and mid-paced through most of this release. Also Zakk's vocals have really kind of lost their edge. His deep, menacing growl of a voice appears only infrequently and is generally more nasaly like his brief Ozzy impersonations on Hellride. There's just really not much BLS attitude nor memorable songwriting to be found here. Overall, I can't say it's Horrible, but I am pretty disappointed. This is just not up to their previous standard.

Highlights: Forever Down, Say What You Will
