Admittedly my experience with At Vance has been somewhat limited up to this point but I'd heard some songs I liked so I decided to give this album the review treatment. One thing that can be said about this band is that they are pretty damn productive as this is 6th album in a matter of 6 years.

On listening to this release there certainly is some good power metal to be found here. Often compared to Yngwie Malmsteen, this band has borrowed a little from there in the neoclassical guitar approach and did manage to take a vocalist from Yngwie's past. Overall though this is less prone to solosturbation and at times has a slick feel that reminds me of glam metal. Certainly is a bit of a crossover there as some of the lyrical content decends into cheese and a power ballad pops up in the form of Who's Foolin Who (though it is a first edition bonus track). Heaven pops to mind as something that could have been off a glam album as well and nearly throws me into diabetic shock with that sugarly chorus. Thankfully though this really isn't representative of the Whole album and there are some up tempo power metal songs that are very energetic and powerful. The band is definetely at their best when they stick to the more power oriented material and it does dominate the album so I can overlook the flowery moments. If you like stuff like Yngwie and Stratovarius or commercial 80s metal then you should find something to enjoy here. If you like both then you'll probably eat this up.

Highlights: Run/Leave, Rise From The Fall

Rating - 3.0/5
