Where Angels Fear is a fairly anticipated album for me as it has been awhile since I had a new Lullacry fix. Not since 2005's Vol. 4 has the world heard some new Lullacry and that album did leave me wanting more. This band just brings good energy and plenty of catchy songs to latch onto. Their simple and catchy approach just works very well for them basically.

Well, nothing has changed here and that is just fine. This is probably the first album to meet my expectations this year and it's actually refreshing to hear a band just charging out with their signature sound and making it work again for them. Experimentation and expanding one's sound has it's place certainly, but with a band like Lullacry I just want them to rock and they deliver. Everything sounds like it should without sounding rehashed and that is just fine by me. All the songs have great energy, an almost pop-punk catchiness that totally works, and a sort of gothic atmosphere that adds a bit of substance and feeling along the way. This has just the right blend of a frontwoman with personality, melodic hooks, upbeat energy, and slow down moments.

Lullacry are a band who just do what they do and do it well. Nothing surprising here, but a lot of highly enjoyable music. If you liked Lullacry before then you'll dig this album too. If up tempo, energetic melodic metal with a gothic vibe sounds good to you than you should give Lullacry a shot. I doubt you'll regret it.
