There was a brief time when I would've counted White Skull among the strongest bands in the active power scene. This time would be the two back to back amazing albums Tales From The North and Public Glory, Secret Agony. That time has been gone for some time though and White Skull seems to have floundered on, unsure where to head to, since the departure of Federica De Boni (Vocals).

I think the bottom line is that the vocals in this band now just don't really cut it for me. Federica was not an amazing 'singer' but I did find her a unique 'vocalist' who added some real force to the band. Ironically she was much deeper than the new male vocalist who sounds more like a strained screamer that occasionally thinks he can actually sing and sounds amateur. I've tried to accept and get used to the new guy but it just isn't working for me here. This band has some pretty solid epic sounding, speedy riffs in their arsenal but it's certainly nothing original. To stand out in such a widely used style you really need all your shit together. Simply put, White Skull is missing a voice to belt out those epic choruses and the singer's attempt at sounding aggressive is also rather weak. There are some pretty good songs here if you can deal with the vocalist, but with such a wide selection of bands in this style, they can't really be one I'd recommend highly. You'd be better off sticking with Grave Digger, Iron Savior, Savage Circus, Rebellion, etc probably.

If you like the bands & style mentioned than this might be an ok inclusion if you want more like it. It's certainly not a Bad listen. Overall though, unless you're a previous fan of the band and want more, I wouldn't really recommend this album. If you haven't heard the band and want to check them out, go for the far superior Tales From The North & Public Glory, Secret Agony.

Highlights: Ninth Night, The Ring Of The Ancients, March to Alesia
