It doesn't take long listening to Thunderstone to figure out they're from Finland. Finnish power has just become a sort of trademarked sound much like Gothenburg or the Bay Area have their own. Tools Of Destruction marks their 3rd album and really there hasn't been any huge changes from the prototypical finnish sound nor their debut. The only thing I see that is a bit different is the fact they're a good deal more mid-paced than most of their contemporaries.

With all that said I think this band has some good material. There's a definite knack for memorable songwriting and the vocals have a very dio-like quality to them. Slightly rough but also very melodic and I'd have to say that it is the most standout feature of the band. The finnish keyboard sound is there, but perhaps not as overpowering as some bands and the guitar sound keeps a degree of heaviness to the music. Nothing to reinvent the wheel here, but this is well excecuted power metal. Recommended to anyone who likes melodic power with a bit of heaviness in the mix, but most notably to fans of Stratovarius and Dio.

Highlights: Liquid Of The King, Tool Of The Devil, The Last Song

Rating - 3.0/5
