7. Empress Of The Dark
8. Seducia

This is my first experience with Silentium but what do you know... they're from Finland, goth, and have a female vocalist. I'm sure you're all so shocked you need to go lie down.

While no one can deny this genre is getting saturated with bands, I do enjoy the style so as I've said many times on the subject... could be worse. This band certainly has a strong take on the sound and I was impressed with them immediately. There's a blend of reminders of various bands such as The Gathering, Power Symphony, and Lacuna Coil, but it all comes together as their own. What I really like about this band is their ability to establish extremely dark and gothy atmospheres while keeping things pretty damn heavy. There are sparsely used atmospheric parts, but only one song (Unbroken) I'd really call light. Mostly what we have here is a very heavy guitar sound mixed with piano, violin, and chello to establish a rather seemless and powerful sound. The female vocals very much remind me of The Gathering mixed with a hint of Cristina Scabbia and the male vocals are pretty heavy but not death by any means. Sort of similar to Marco of Nightwish/Tarot, but rougher and frankly they work way better with this sort of heavier music. Certainly a lot of talent in this band and some standout, original songwriting in a sometimes stagnant genre. Recommended to fans of the above mentioned bands and anyone who likes heavy, dark music with a good deal of violin, piano, and cello.

Highlights: Empress Of The Dark, Dead Silent, Hangman's Lullaby

Rating - 4.0/5
