Mystic Prophecy initially came together when two members of the band Valley's Eve were introduced to well known metal guitarist Gus G and they put out 3 albums together. This album however marks their first since the departure of Gus G.

Well what we have on this one is a sound which very much reminds me of the two members' other band Valley's Eve. Well executed power metal with sharp sounding riffs and mid-range vocals that often kick into a powerful wail during the choruses. All the musicians are definitely competent and the sound is pretty strong. As a whole I think this release is fairly enjoyable. The problem with this band comes in the form of the same exact problem Valley's Eve has... a striking lack of original songwriting. Everything here suffers from an incredibly rigid formula applied to pretty much every song. Really I don't know why both bands exist since this album sounds like a carbon copy of what Valley's Eve has already done. Well actually I do know... because this band had Gus G and that got the members the extra notice they were seeking. In the end, while I think the band has some potential, it ends there and this album is largely forgettable due to a lack of the songs standing out on their own. The only track that does grab me a bit due to a different approach is Into The Fire which closes out the album on a more ballad oriented note. If you like upbeat, energetic power with a heavier approach than you might like this but branching out a bit would be extremely beneficial to this band.

Highlights: Into The Fire

Rating - 3.0/5
