HolyHell are a new band and one of the first signings to Magic Circle when Joey DiMeo of Manowar first founded the label. There's been a fair amount of hype concerning this band since their EP and appearance at the Magic Circle music festival.

Well I must say that their debut does in fact live up to the hype. This album is a fine piece of symphonic metal from start to finish without being cheesy or exactly the norm for female fronted symphonic metal. To me this sounds considerably more ballsy than a lot of the smooth sounding and ballad laden female fronted symphonic acts. This is much more of an epic power metal album than that with a fair amount of guitar power from noteworthy guitar shredder, Joe Stump. Recently this band did some touring opening for Manowar and to me they make a good pairing. This really does have a sort of epic fantasy metal feel to it with enough power and heaviness to open a show for Manowar.

All in all this is just a solid release. The vocals are powerful, the guitar is good, and I'm hard pressed to find a flaw in the songwriting from start to finish. Maybe this doesn't have the huge hits to take it to that next level, but this is an enjoyable collection of songs and a pretty well put together debut. I would recommend this to fans of power metal with some orchestrated backing to it. This is more of a metal album utilizing backing orchestration than a band consumed by it.

Highlights - Prophecy, Eclipse, Last Vision, Angel Of Darkness

Rating - 4.0/5
