Chuck Billy and Steve Souza are certainly two names that anyone familiar with thrash metal should know. Both men have been involved with two of the biggest names from the genre and now they have combined forces in the new project band Dublin Death Patrol. Can't say you usually see solo/project releases from vocalists out of the thrash genre and it is an interesting concept.

When you start to get into the meat of this album though, you start to realize it really is all about the name recognition of those two. Looking at the musicians involved and seeing that they're pretty much nobodies and relatives it starts to become difficult to take this band seriously. Add in the facts of a silly title like DDP 4 Life and a couple covers and this really just seems like a bunch of family fucking around and making an album of it.

Overall, the result is sort of a blend of traditional bay area thrash and a hard rock roots feel that the covers pretty well give you an idea of. At times the music here can be all out thrashing, at times some post-thrash groove, and at others there's a bit of a swaggering rock feel with singalong gang vocals. The music isn't anything technical, impressive or new but is generally energetic enough with a certain catchyness and fun rock vibe to make this a pretty good listen. Vocally, Souza and Billy do make for a good blend as their gruff and more nasally shrieking voices balance each other out and certainly people should know by now that they're capable enough on their own.

I really don't think there's anything revolutionary here and the band strikes me as more of a novelty for fans, but it doesn't do that bad a job of it either. I don't see Dublin Death Patrol as any great force to watch but if you're a fan of Exodus and/or Testament than it might be worth a go to see what the boys are up to. Dublin Death Patrol make for an interesting, trivial addition to the thrash genre if nothing else.

Highlights: Unnatural Causes, Sid Vicious, Cold Sweat

Rating - 3.0/5
