Dark At Dawn's first demo came out in 1993 but I would not be surprised to know that many people reading this are going 'who the hell is Dark At Dawn?'. 4 albums in, on AFM, and still very unknown... criminal if you ask me.

The band's sound basically takes 2 well known formulas and mixes them in a way that I haven't really heard anyone do before. Think your typical german power act with thick riffs combined with the melodic touches and choruses of a goth metal band from Finland. Kind of Grave Digger meets Sentenced. It really works out quite well as the music seems heavy but has more feeling and range than your typical German power metal band. Plus it just has those infectious finn goth melodic guitar sections. Really it's just a winning combination that could bridge two very dissimilar genres. Kind of reminds me of The Dogma in that way but the two sound nothing alike really. Two very different forms of power metal involved. Plus, to Dark At Dawn's credit, they were around doing this long before The Dogma.

For fans of the band, this is pretty much the same old, but the songs haven't really lost their punch for me. They certainly have a signature and don't stray too far but that also is comparable to Grave Digger. There is more variation in the riffs than that band though and I think that will give them more longevity even if they never get the same regard. Any fan of dark and heavy music should check this out and if you're into the german power sound, I think there's plenty to like here.

Highlights: Rosts Of Light, Crossbreed, Fearless, The Ones With Firey Eyes
