A finnish goth metal release from Spinefarm... what a suprise. This one marks Charon's fourth album and the band has benefited a bit in exposure from Juha-Peka's collaboration with Sentenced frontman Ville in Poisonblack. Charon has always kind of followed Sentenced in style, but I do think there's enough to distinguish the two. Most notably that Charon has the deeper, more typical goth vocals and is generally not as heavy.

Charon's sound on this album tends to follow a very notictable formula. Almost all of the tracks have mellow verses which lead into more upbeat and heavy choral sections. At times this sameness in the mellow verses makes the album drag slightly for me, but the highlights are strong ones. Overall, this is a solid effort but if you're not a fan of the finnish goth sound then this certainly isn't going to change your mind. Fairly by the numbers music and the vocals are typical of the scene, also with little change throughout. It does manage to set the mood it seeks though and the choruses in particular have a good deal of feeling to them.

Highlights: Deep Water, Ride On Tears, Colder

Rating - 3.0/5
