There was a time when I'd count BLS high in my list of favorite bands but that time is seeming farther and farther gone. The longer BLS has stayed in the commercial spotlight, the more their material has seemed to stagnate.

Well on this release I have to say, the downward spiral continues. Listening to this album I just couldn't find anything to latch onto. None of the songs seem like anything more than mediocre versions of what came before and there really aren't any tracks which pick up the pace and get heavy. Most of this meanders on at mid-pace with that same chug chug Pantera meets Sabbath, 'southern metal' vibe to it. No memorable choruses really and I didn't hear much to impress me on the guitar end. I have to wonder if Wylde is purposely dumbing himself down for the mainstream lately. Besides the same old mid-paced tracks which blend together you also get a number of piano driven drivel mixed in as well which also fails to impress for the most part. The closest to a highlight this album probably has though is Blood Is Thicker Than Water which has a sound very reminiscent of Book Of Shadows. Unfortunately, it's really not quite up to that quality. Still the nearest this album comes to a standout track for me. Devil's Dime does try to be more upbeat but it sounds thrown together and generally poor.

I just can't see BLS getting good again now that they've settled firmly into this rut and the Ozzfest sort of crowd seems to be eating it up. It's a shame because Wylde is a hell of a guitarist when he wants to be.

Highlights: Blood Is Thicker Than Water
