All Is Dust marks the first release by this young power metal band out of Canada. Not exactly a genre Canada is known for... actually I wouldn't say Canada is known for much of anything musically. No particular style anyways.

Well this definitely has a very european sound to it as the music is swift but melodic keyboard-centric power metal. There are fairly large reminders of Stratovarius in both the guitar and keyboards throughout this release. The vocals though are more mid-ranged and only occasionally reach for a high note. Definitely nothing groundbreaking here in style, but a good catchy sound with apt musicians and enjoyable songs. Not an incredibly varied release from song to song as it pretty much sticks to it's formula, but I never really felt like I was listening to the same song either. Still... it is better for a solid listening experience than any particular highlight songs. For a debut this certainly does show promise and if the band can add a little more of themselves to the music, they could go far. Really it's nice to see some power metal of this vein making it's way to this side of the Alantic.

Recommended to fans of more melodic than heavy power metal with a fair use of keys. Anyone into Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, Thunderstone, etc could probably find something to like here.

Highlights: Follow The Wind, All Is Dust, Winter Heaven

Rating - 3.0/5
