From the time of the release of Tempo Of The Damned most everyone knew it was going to be a hard album to live up to. Tempo marked such a huge and sudden reinterest in Exodus that is was incredible. Most of the Souza albums recieved mixed reactions and the band had not done anything in the studio for many years when Tempo hit the shelves and floored thrash fans and critics alike. The praise for that album seemed neverending as it appeared in virtually every metal toplist. Then everything seemingly started to slip away as the lineup underwent sudden and drastic changes as longtime members Rick Hunolt, Zetro, and Tom Hunting all departed practically at once, leaving the band in seeming chaos. Many feared the worst with all the lineup changes that an album matching Tempo would be even more unlikely... but now it's here... and what's the verdict you ask?

Don't you worry about a thing. This album is every bit as good as Tempo and maybe even a little bit better, proving that Gary Holt is and will always be the heart of Exodus. Many people suspected that this album would be some sort of move towards a more commercial sound, but if anything this album seems less modernized than the previous release. In many ways this is a more traditional Exodus album and really thrashes out. I think fans of older Souza Exodus and Tempo alike should be pleased with what they find here. This one comes across as good mix of more traditional Exodus and some of the groove oriented tracks which appeared on Tempo.

New vocalist Rob Dukes is the perfect replacement as he sounds much like Souza but with a bit more harshness to his voice ala the teutonic style. I can see him fitting in perfectly live on the older Exodus tunes, but he leaves his own mark here. Completely heavy sounding singer and ideal for a thrash band like Exodus. The rest of the recruited lineup are thrash veterans from bands like Slayer and Heathen so that shouldn't worry anybody really. These guys know how to make a kick ass thrash album and fill the previous shoes admirably.

In short this album continues to pave the way for Exodus in the modern era and leaves me really looking forward to another Exodus album. I never thought I'd say it but... Souza who?
